iFlash touch icon

Loopware — Tags: — Davey @ October 13, 2008

So I’m currently working with an artist to figure out what the icon for iFlash touch should be, and I wanted to as a quick question from everyone :-).

When you think of knowledge and learning, what immediately pops into your mind?

Any responses would greatly help! Thanks! (and yes, I’ll have another post detailing the current status of iFlash touch soon).

  1. books are overused on the iPod/iPhone. how about a simple lightbulb. maybe a CFL or a halogen is fine. it works because “iFlash” lightbulb.. huh…. HUH?!?!

  2. A book and an eye.

  3. Maybe a notecard with a lightbulb on it? I strongly relate iFlash with flashcards, and I like the lightbulb idea :)

Yay, an icon means you’re close to done, right ;)

  4. My vote would be something involving a lightning bolt. Lightning bold with a book or a flashcard or a brain or an owl (Greek for knowledge) in the background… Do I get a prize if you use my idea?

  5. The sculpture “the thinker” by Rodin. It doesn’t necessarily relate well to flashcards but when I think of having to study all night its the image that pops into my mind.

  6. I think a fan of cards, with a simple outline drawing of a brain printed on the top one, would be perfectly clear. Cards + brain = flashcards!

  7. Honestly, I think that the icon you use for the iFlash program on Mac would be perfect.

  8. Elsa: unfortunately, it doesn’t mean that iFlash touch is close to done. I wanted to get the icon done quickly though, since it’s much nicer to work on an app with a pretty icon! :-)

  9. I agree with the lady who mentioned the light bulb. It’s really a BING! (lights on) moment when the right word/expression/idea comes to you and that’s what iFlash delivers.

  10. What pops into mind strictly based on “knowledge” and “learning” is a graduation cap with the tassel hanging off the side.

If this is the logo that would be used on the iPhone I have to agree that the current iFlash logo would be best. I already know that iFlash is one damn fine program and if I saw that readily available for the iPhone I’d not hesitate about snatching it up!

  15. I like the OSX icon. I keep looking for the 3 blue flash cards you have as an icon for OSX!!! My eye is very trained to look for it. I use iFlash ALL the time and LOVE it! One thing I use it for is to help my autistic son with his spelling (love that I can have a side with voice only and then the “back” has the word spelled correctly to check). If it is on the computer or my iPhone, he will do it! I can’t wait for this to be mobile!!!! The other “make your own” flash card programs for iPhone are not very good. And I already have quite a few iFlash decks…I’d hate to have to re-enter everything into another program just to get it on my iPhone.

  16. I like the light bulb idea, but a lot of people seem to like the old logo so you could do the old icon with a light bulb.
Davey, if Sariah’s comment doesn’t motivate you to finish this app soon then nothing will. But honestly I don’t think people will really care what the icon looks like they’d rather have the app and you can always update the icon later. Please don’t string us along anymore with simple screen shots and posts about what the pretty icon should look like. Less talk and more action please, otherwise people will watch this app disappear into vaporware and you’ll loose your client base to an inferior competitor who got their app out while you were still trying to draw up a pretty icon.

  17. I like your icon for the program, just the three decks on a button would be fine – that will be awesome when you get this done for the iPhone

  18. I’m looking forward to trying the new iPhone iFlash – the existing flashcard programs for iPhone are all awful, and I don’t want to have to port my existing data. I use Mynosyne on my windows machine at work, and currently use Genius on my Mac, but I will convert to iFlash in a heartbeat once it works with my iPhone!

  20. I think that the existing icon you have is great! No offense to the other suggestions, but they just don’t say iFlash like your current icon does.
And please don’t listen to anxiously frustrated. That’s ridiculous. I have other flashcard programs right now, but I know that the second your app comes out I’m buying it, and I will not be needing another one. You have loyal fans out there!

  21. Def. a brain! Any timeframe for release?

  22. I agree with the people who said that the normal iflash icon would be the best, it keeps it origionality and people will recognize it.

    iflash is awesome :D

  23. I like the normal iflash icon as well.

Waiting for the download, so I can buy an iPhone!

  24. yes just the regular iflash icon is definitely the way to go.
cant wait for this to come to the iphone, this app is the only reason i pass vocab tests

  25. Never mind the icon – pick anything – I can’t wait for i(Phone)Flash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When oh when???????

  26. I agree that it should be the current iflash icon…I also can’t wait for the iphone flash…exams are coming up! :)

  27. Same icon is a no brainer. Two different icons for the same product is a marketing disaster. That said, I don’t care what the icon is, just as long as it gets done soon. (I am thinking about buying and older version of the Ipod just so I can carry my cards with me.)

  30. David,

Please don’t let LittleBigPlanet take over your life. At least not too much… ;-)

We have been waiting for quite a while. More than half a year, I reckon (March was the release of the iPhone SDK).

It would be nice too hear anything – really anything – about the current development stage of iFlash touch. Please don’t build-in too many features. Just get things rolling.

Please let us know whether we can bet on a alpha, beta or gamma version before Christmas.

  33. I don’t think the iPhone itself was so eagerly awaited. Seriously, I can think of no single app that is as useful as this could be on the ITouch platform. My main intended use is for memorizing Chinese vocabulary, but would love to use it on other languages as well as for memorizing key facts and figures for various projects my firm is working on.

  34. My vote would be to make the iFlash Touch icon as close to the iFlash Mac icon as is reasonable. After all, the two apps are quite closely linked, right?

  35. How about an elephant? Memory and all that…
