iFlash touch: Quick development update

Loopware — Tags: — Davey @ November 23, 2008

Hey everyone,

Just a quick update on iFlash touch development. I’ve had more time to work on it recently, and have made some good progress getting the card show up and running. It truly feels incredible to flick through your cards… much better than I could have imagined!

Anyways, things are still in a kind-of-crazy state, but that’s how it always is with software development. I’ve had an application icon designed, and I think it looks amazing (!), but I’ll preview that at a later date once I’m closer to release :-).

I’m currently aiming to have a beta ready by mid-to-late December. I’ll post more about that once I’m ready to begin the beta program.

Thank you all for your patience! I know that iFlash touch is taking longer than expected, but I hope it’s (ultimately) worth the wait!

- Davey

  4. Excellent news. I’ve put off all semblance of serious learning until this is released. Looks like I might have to get out of my pajamas and get rolling soon :)

  6. Hello Davey, this is what we wanted to hear (and I guess we (your fans) have been really waiting for a while.. ) !!!!
Knowing that you are really making progress is a great news !
The possibility to study on the iphone is the only “big thing” still missing on the iphone at least for me…
The iPhone allowed me to implement the GTD on a mobile device (thanks to Omnifocus).
All the rest I need is already on the iPhone or I could buy it… except for a good studying program…
Suggestion: sometimes ago you asked for a good program under the pc world… in the meanwhile I’m actually using Anki and I have to say that the sophistication of the algorithm is really excellent…. but the elegance of iFlash is still unsurpassed !!

So the next generation killer app for studying could be iFlash on the iPhone powered with the supermemo like Anki algorithm.

But step by step !! Being able to use iFlash for the iPhone even if with the traditional iFlash study algorithms would be already a huge step ahead !!!

So hold on and keep going on !! :-)

  10. Count me in as a beta tester also. Can’t wait to get my Japanese JLPT cards that I have worked so hard to gather on my iPhone also.

  11. Yay! I’m impatiently waiting for a way to take my study cards with me and use them on my iPhone.
Although the “study on your iPod nano” feature was what made me buy iFlash in the first place, I never was too excited about the way they displayed on it so I didn’t use it there. So, I’m excited we’ll have a pretty take-away interface soon!

  14. Hello,

again, excellent news. Would love to best test as well. can’t wait to study my integrated Chinese cards on the iphone. I know i can use various websites that have card-like functionality but nothing beats the features of iFlash.

Please keep me posted on the beta!

    Regards,

  15. I am quite anxious to see the proposed product as it develops. I have currently been exploring the various flash card products for the iTouch that are available to determine their strengths. Are there any areas of strength that you have explored (such as the ability to have multi-sided cards) that would entice me to wait rather than use any of the existing software?

  17. Great news! Will be checking in now much more regularly to see how you’re progressing towards a release. Like the others, quite willing to beta if it’s helpful. Hope you’re able to carve out the time to make this happen.

  19. Yaaahoooooo! Count me in for beta-testing. I’ve made thousands of cards that are just waiting to get off of my iMac and onto my iPod. Studying will be infinitely more enjoyable! Can’t wait.

  20. Will the iPhone version support audio?

  21. I turned my WHOLE french class at Columbia onto iFlash, which will be much more attractive to everyone when they can carry their flash cards around on their iPhones! I would also advocate for the ability to chose to color-code individual flash cards for language study, ie. pink for feminine, blue for masculine, green for verbs etc.

  22. I would very much like to be a tester.

    BTW, any audio update?

  23. I love iFlash on my computer and have recently acquired an iPhone so was browsing the app store for something like. Thank goodness I decided on a whim to check your website and see if you had an iPhone app. I will wait for yours to be ready – I have a lot of time invested in decks and am thrilled to be able to use them on new phone.

  24. Heads up. I just noticed there is another program now in the app store called iFlash! … I hope this doesn’t cause you to delay your work in getting the program onto the iPhone.
