iFlash touch status update!

Loopware — Tags: — Davey @ January 14, 2009

It’s been a while since my last post, and I thought I should update everyone on how iFlash touch is going. Well, it’s going… well! The first private beta has been sent out and I’ve been receiving awesome feedback from the beta testers (thank you all!). I didn’t have much time to work on iFlash touch during the holidays, but now that they’re over I’ll have some quality time to spend getting it up to speed.

I hope to release it within the next month or two, pending any show-stopping issues.

Thanks for your patience! I know it’s been a long wait, but I hope the final product is ultimately worth it :-).

- Davey

  2. Davey,

thank you thank you! i’ve been looking forward to iflash on the touch for months. thank you so much for working on it for us. i think the touch is the perfect tool for learning since it’s so easy to carry and study whenever you have a couple minutes.

  3. Dave,

I have had your program for a while. I am currently using it to learn all kinds of really useful things. I am so jazzed about getting it for my iPhone. Looking forward to being able to learn more faster. Please, put me on your contact list. I’ve got my money ready.

  4. Have you looked at all in to supporting unicode right-to-left languages. It is not defaulted into the iPhone OS, but other programs have done work arounds (iFlipr supports it, though the font choices aren’t ideal).

  5. Davey,

I know that the iFlash touch is exciting to many, but I don’t have an iPod Touch or iPhone so I would like to know how the good old iFlash 2.7 is doing.

My main feature request for iFlash is the ability to enter answers rather than, or in addition to, being shown the answer. I know this is a long standing request from a number of users. Any news on the implementation of this feature?

Sorry to throw this into the middle of the iFlash touch updates but I couldn’t find anywhere else to put it.

  6. my biggest wish for iflash touch would be the compatibility with 2.7. If I can import the decks from my computer to ipod touch (or update it whenever i make some new cards), create some new cards on the touch and update the existing deck on my computer, that would be awesome. I’m a big fan of iflash and I refuse to buy other flash card apps for my ipod touch!

  7. Davey,

Good to see you are back into developing these apps. Loving iFlash touch. Both the desktop and the touch version get it right!

  8. Davey,

Solely in anticipation of this release, I just purchased an iPod Touch in California prior to returning to Bangkok. Picked up an earphone/microphone combo as well with the hope we might be able to add sound via the touch as well — was that too wishful thinking?

How about letting us know some of the features we can expect?

Can’t wait, and thanks for keeping us posted.

  9. Awesome! I truly cannot wait for this product. I NEED this for school. I’m in an intense program with 9 science courses per semester and cannot exist without iFlash for my macbook. Keep up the good work!

  10. Holy crap dude, updates! I’m a med-student and I am DYING for a portable version of iFlash! Seriously, I must go through thirty sheets of paper a day memorizing, I really need to start being more green! Help me be green!

  11. Hey I love iFlash. I didn’t see anywhere on the site for feedback but I had a couple of suggestions for future updates. I’m in biology and I was hoping future editions could include more mac font options. To italicize species names and allow different font colors (dark slide with light fonts would be cool), allow underlining, super and subscripts etc. would be most useful. Keep up the good work.

  14. I agree with Ed (emb). I would like to see the ability to enter answers in addition to being shown the answer. I’m excited for iFlash on the ipod touch/iphone, and just like Yu, I hope to see iFlash touch and 2.7 integrated with each other.

  15. Please incorporate the ability to mix fonts, colors, etc in the fields.

  16. Really looking forward to this; iFlash was the first app I looked for when I got my touch – I’m holding out for your flashcard app, but the waiting ain’t easy! Thanks for all the hard work!

  17. Mobile is the sign of the times.. it’s an awesome software, but it doesn’t help me at all if my flashcards are sitting on my desk (desktop) with rest of my books. As an ER doc, the iFlash really helps me keep in my head doses and new clinical info. I have a itouch and blackberry and would love to upload the cards on either of the two… sooner rather than later would be optimal. I shared the concept with my colleagues, but no one seems to be interested if it’s not mobile. Lastly, a design thought. We use quite a lot of algorythms in medicine. It would be really nice if you had a simple algorhythm flashcard template where you can insert the answer for each step model. Think about it!

  18. I love iFlash 2.7 for my Mac, its awesome. Other flash-card programs on iphone stink; I can’t wait for it to come out.

There will be integration with iFlash 2.7 for mac, right???

    THANKS.

  26. I agree with emb and J. The only reason I haven’t purchased an iFlash license is the inability to type in the response (an especially useful feature for learning foreign language vocabulary, for example).

    Comment by Andy — February 12, 2009 @ 2:23 am
  27. Really looking forward to this! I use iFlash with my homeschooled children for vocab/spelling ALL the time. Now three of them have iPod Touchs and we are anxiously looking forward to being mobile with all the lists we have already started! Will be purchasing ASAP after it is released.

    Thanks

  29. Its one month after your last information about iflash touch. Are there any news? How it seems the competitors are not sleeping. And the thought to change comes more often. Come on David! Save your advantage you had with iflash. GoGoGoGo…..

    Good luck!

Will there be a way for PC users to get their own cards into iflash touch when it comes out? Thanks! I am looking forward to the program, as long as I don’t actually have to buy a mac just to get my cards onto it :)

I assume that the touch version will be able to totally coinside with the Iflash I already have on my mac? Hmmn, time will tell. I tell all my friends about iflash. Cant wait man!!!

  40. Based on your silence and long overdue update, I’m assuming you’ve abandoned your customers. So I think I’ll seek another resource. Please provide me a refund for the iFlash, it is not practical use for someone constantly on the go. Good luck.

    Comment by Nay — March 2, 2009 @ 3:42 pm
  41. Seriously…. where is it?

    Comment by henry — March 2, 2009 @ 4:42 pm
  42. Hey Nay,

Honestly: do not harass Davey for this! He is not a multinational company with enormous resources, but a poor student doing this in his spare time. He is doing us all a favor in writing such awesome applications! But if you are looking for a solution with a lot of people behind it (offices you can call, regular updates, professional media covering etc…), where they could even afford a refund in particular cases like your complaint, then I think you clearly bought the wrong product and should look elsewhere.

Hey, Davey is really doing us all a favor! And we shouldn’t blame him for the fact that his own communication somehow cornered him at the moment.
Apparently he is working very hard on it and doesn’t even take the time to provide further progress updates. But this is totally fine.
Imagine you wouldn’t have known that there is an expected release date somewhere around end of feb you wouldn’t even bother that there is no news….right?

So let’s all calm down a bit. Those of you who can’t wait anymore: go buy another product: you might be happier that way.
And for all the rest, who is using iFlash intensively (like me) and is very pleased with the way it works seemlessly and supports multiple sides….we just need to be patient and I’m sure Davey will soon provide us with a great mobile app!

    This being said:
Davey: best of luck for the finishing the mobile version of iFlash. I’m sure there are a lot of your customers who will wait until you finish the app. Don’t get stressed by comments. Trust your instinct you proved so far by writing such a great app and finish it the best way you can! I’ll wait and I’m sure I’m not the only one to do so! :-)

  47. Yeah, I’m hanging out for this app, I’ve tried some of the others on the App store and they’re all pretty sucky, iFlash is the only computer based flashcard app that I like so hopefully it’ll be that way on the iPhone too.

People are studying for finals with sub par flash programs, if you get this out soon I promise to tell all my friends to get it as well. Iv told everyone in my school about iflash and tons of them have gotten it. I check everyday on this blog just to see progress. Even if its not out yet could you tell us how its going?
