iFlash Touch 1.0.1 submitted

Loopware — Tags: — Davey @ June 16, 2009

Hey everyone,

I’ve just submitted iFlash Touch 1.0.1 to the App Store. It isn’t a big update, and only fixes a few small bugs that iFlash Touch had when running on iPhone OS 3.0. I’ll be working on the next update from now on, which will add score and interval memorization.

Enjoy!

- Davey

Update: There may be some confusion. iFlash Touch 1.0.1 does not add interval and score memorization. I am working on that for the next update (presumably 1.0.2).

  1. Hi Davey,

Are you planning to the ability to view pictures to the iFlash touch?

  3. Dave, will you be adding support for studying a subset (both random and user-selected) of cards into the next version?

  5. Interval study!!! My number 1 wish!! I have over 4,000 cards in my current deck for medical school. Having interval study will be nice.

  6. Please please please put sound and images on the update soon list as well. … Interval study is great, but I need to hear the sounds!

    Thanks.

  7. Thanks for interval!! I second Lee’s comment for sound and images. If you add this, then you will be the only app to do so that has these features:

    1) Mac App (that syncs over WiFi network and not a remote server)
    2) iPhone App
    3) Interval
    4) image and audio

No one has all four of these, no one.

  8. If you could add a search function to the iPhone app at some point, that would be spectacular. I use iFlash as an Arabic vocabulary list (by now very extensive). Since the iPhone now supports Arabic text, it could function not only as a study guide but also as a dictionary!

    Thanks for the great app.

  10. Any idea when the new version is going to be available in the App store? Since I updated my iPod touch I cannot use iFlash touch at all. :(

  11. Martin: You should still be able to use it, there were just a few bugs. Please email me with what’s happening when you try and use it. Thanks!

As for when it’s available, that’s up to Apple.

  12. Davey: When tapping a category, either nothing happens or the dialog “All cards memorized” appears. When tapping “Study All” in this dialog, the dialog disappears and I’m back to the list of categories (without any studying).

But I just realized that I can also start studying by first opening the details of the category (the blue arrow) and then tapping on “Study”. And this works well; at least it is a functional work-a-round. :)

  13. I am getting the same thing as @Martin. “Study All” does nothing but make the screen flash.

  14. Just downloaded version 1.0.1 and it has the same problem as described above (@12.). I’m using a 2nd generation iPod touch 8 GB with OS 3.0 (7A341), model MB528BT.

  15. This app would be perfect if it had the ability to view images. Is this something that you are working on?

  16. One more vote for supporting images on the Touch version!

I certainly won’t complain to see interval memorization come first; I can well understand how that is the more important feature to many users. Still, I have decks that are only possible with image support, and being able to study them while mobile would make me an even happier and more grateful camper than I already am.

  17. Images AND sound!!! PLEASE. I’ve spent a lot of effort getting images and native speaker sounds into my stacks. In the current incarnation of iFlash touch the stacks are severely crippled, although I’m still very supportive of Davy’s efforts so far. How about a progress update? Thanks.

  18. @Aaron: Any possibility of sharing your Arabic flashcards? It would be very useful to me.

  19. Score and interval studying will be fantastic additions! Will you also be adding a way to flag cards? To me flagging would be even more useful than images or audio. However, even if i could flag I wonder if there is a way to sync the deck from my iPod Touch to the deck on my desktop?

    Thanks for the great work!!

  20. Hey Davey,

Still loving both versions of iFlash (iPhone and Mac OS X). I’m using it mainly to study for the GREs that I plan on taking in a little over a month.

I thought of another thing I’d love to see implemented in a future version of iFlash.

    Automatic Card Rotation!!

I was on the elliptical working out yesterday and thought I could either watch the mind-numbing TV they had on in front of me at the gym, or make my time more useful and try to memorize a few more words. I was able to use iFlash for a while or so and flip through some cards, but eventually stopped simply because I started to get pretty sweaty and didn’t want to touch my iPhone at that point and also it was somewhat hard to steady the iPhone as I flipped through the screen while bobbing up and down; I had to eventually start watching that mind numbing television…

What would have been extremely useful is if while I was working out, I could have just left the iPhone resting on the elliptical’s magazine mount and every 1 or 2 seconds the card would show me the front card, then the back of it, then move on to the next card. I wouldn’t have had to touch the iPhone once i set up the duration of how long the cards should display before moving on to the next card.

Thanks again for an excellent (and most useful) product!!

  21. Hi Davey,

It would be nice if you could include a search function in a later release of the touch version. I use your app to study vocab. With the search function the flash card database could also be my personal dictionary as is the case for the iflash version on my mac already.

Might there be an easy way to link it with the spotlight search function of the iphone/ ipod touch of OS3.0?

Thanks for taking it into consideration.

  22. Hi Davey
Firtst my congratulations for your effort to offer iflash on the iphone!
My question: will there be scroll bars some day so that text length is no longer limited? If not, is there a way to know from within the desktop app how much text will be shown on the iphone?
    Thanks a lot.

Hoping you’re able to get sounds and images into iFlash Touch soon.
